Robert
T.
James was born in 1923 and is a resident of
Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has
received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree from the
University of Denver. After practicing
law for 35 years, he retired from law in 1986 and returned to college.
For three years he took courses in psychology and psychotherapy at the
University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, as a background for the past-life
research he planned to conduct.
Dr.
James has been an active student of hypnosis
for some 40 years, and over that period of time, has attended numerous schools
and workshops studying general hypnosis, forensic hypnosis, and hypnotherapy.
He has had a great deal of practical experience in hypnosis along with
supervised training. He has been
certified both as a
Master
Hypnotist and a Hypnotherapist by The American
Council of Hypnotist Examiners.
Dr.
James is a pragmatist and a skeptic.
He does not rely on the opinions of religious leaders, sacred books, or
the experiences of psychics. He does not
accept the premise that the existence of past lives should be based on trust or
faith, but does not attempt to denigrate those who do accept spiritual matters
on faith. He looks for verifiable
evidence, and attempts to draw rational conclusions from that evidence.
Before
conducting his research, he was neither a believer nor a disbeliever in the
past-life phenomena, but felt because of his background in hypnosis and
psychology, he was in a unique position to impartially research this phenomena.
After examining
the research of others and his own, he is now of the opinion that the evidence
is overwhelming that we are indeed spiritual beings, having lived many times
before, and are now having another human experience.
Today’s scientific methods
realistically require that the proponents of a theory or proposition such as the
existence of past lives assume the responsibility of demonstrating the truth of
their assertions. That burden has now
been met. The recall of regressed
past-life memories is no longer the realm of religious belief or the insights of
the enlightened, but a matter of demonstrable, human experience.
The burden of proof has now shifted to the detractors of past lives to
show that such is not the normal part of our reality.
